Mental Health

What sets us apart from other Mental Health Service providers is our multi-disciplinary approach. Often, a person suffering from a mental illness, can have complex needs, which cannot be met by one professional only. So, if required, we often refer and work together with any of our colleagues within the team, who in partnership with the key clinician, may be better able to serve the needs of the person. Our team comprises of professionals from different disciplines, all converging on the same goal of improving the psychological well-being of the person seeking our help. We have professionals working in areas of:

  • Psychiatry
  • Social Work & Child Protection
  • Outreach and Liaison Work
  • Clinical Psychology
  • Special Education
  • Pediatric Physiotherapy
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Specialist Autism Interventions including Early Intervention

Clinic Based Services

When a child or an adult, comes to us, we do an initial evaluation to assess how best we can provide treatment for him/her. Depending on what emerges from our initial evaluation, we can provide a range of services, which can be availed. On other occasions, initial evaluation has been done by another professional or team, and the person seeking help, has very specific treatment needs. The range of treatment which is offered varies from helping very young children to attain their developmental milestones to providing support, counselling and carer education for senior citizens suffering from end stage dementia. At MHF,the services which are available are:

  • Psychiatric diagnosis, evaluation and treatments
  • Early Intervention Program for Developmental Disorders
  • Individual Psychotherapy and Counselling Services for a range of emotional and behavioral problems including addictions.
  • Group work with children and their carers to improve social skills
  • Psychological evaluation for diagnosis
  • Psycho-educational and Developmental Assessments for children and young people with disruptive behaviour and emotional problems
  • Marital/Couples Therapy for relationship conflicts

  • Psychiatric Disorders in Children and Adolescents

Outreach Services

  • Psychiatric Social Work

  • Liaison work with schools and workplaces
  • Training educators on mental health
  • Liaising with NGO’s/ Schools/Statutory Organisations to spread awareness on Child Abuse
  • Enabling parents/carers through workshops to more effectively manage developmental and mental health problems in their children
  • Training carers/teachers/counsellors/social workers/therapists on sexuality issues in children and young people with disabilities

One of the key strengths of MHF, apart from their comprehensive and evidence based, clinic-based therapeutic and psycho-diagnostic services is that we provide customised training programs for a variety of organisations which works on the intersection of education, mental health, social care and disability. MHF provides School and Community based workshops for parents, care-givers, educators and professionals. National and International experts are periodically invited to conduct some of these workshops and training programs.

The areas focused on are issues that affect learning and psychological development, and effective ways of understanding and dealing with them.

MHF also provides interactive support to schools for children with learning, behaviour or emotional problems as and when required.

This may come in the form of working together with the teacher in charge of the child/ parents of the child / the child her/himself.

Staff capacity building services in development and humanitarian organisations may also be availed of.
